Homeschooling this year has been awesome. For science we spend a lot of time outside and doing hands on things. We read the book From Seed to Pumpkin and from it did the experiments and exploring.
This involved looking at how roots and the tubes in the plant carry water to the leaves.
Then we went and got our pumpkins for the season.
We made sure to get a few pie pumpkins. My goal was to bake a pumpkin pie from scratch. We also picked up so different gourds to look at and study. I ended up using them for a table centerpiece too.
Last weekend Anthony spent a morning and raked the rest of the leaves with the kids. They of course loved playing in the leaves again. Ari didn't like it as much as the other two and stuck pretty close to Anthony, but he still enjoyed being outside.
We also cut open one of the pie pumpkins and roasted the seeds. We baked the pumpkin and Lilliana and I made a pie including homemade pie crust. She loved it. The kids love the pumpkin seeds. They are so good for you too.
We are reading a book in school that is called My Favorite Time of Year. The little girl in the book goes through each season. As I read fall I realized we have followed what she and her family have done for fall. It was fun to be able to see the kids understand those things and know they were doing the same things the little girl in the book was. They could relate and understood it even more. It has been a wonderful fall this year! I wish it would last just a little bit longer.
