Fall is in the air. A Michigan Fall is one of the best things there is about Michigan. It is one reason I don't want to move. We occasionally talk about moving to another state etc. Usually it is just talked about briefly. One of my biggest reasons for not moving is missing the fall colors. It is one of my FAVORITE things about Michigan. Between the cider mill, wonderful fall colors, and all the pumpkin stands along the road I can't get enough of fall.
As we are now homeschooling I knew we would use October to explore parts of fall. Wednesdays are usually our nature study days along with a craft correlating. I picked up this book for them to study why the leaves change. They loved it.
So today we went out for our walk. It was chilly, but they didn't care. They were on a mission to find leaves. So they had their pile. I also kept a bag for each one of them with nice leaves that we would use for crafts. I am sure we looked a site with Ari in the wagon and the oldest two carrying arms full of leaves up and down the road. They smelled them, threw, them crunched them, etc. It was FALL.
Then we came home and did our crafts. Our book had all the different leaf types with the names of the trees so we identified the leaves and did crayon rubbings. Then they all picked their favorites and I pressed them between wax paper. Then we decorated the homeschool room. They were very proud of their work. This is another reason why I LOVE homeschooling. Seeing them enjoy these moments made my day.
Happy Fall!
