This year for vacation we enjoyed some Pure Michigan travel. The more I live and see of Michigan the more I love it. We were very thankful to be able to borrow a friend's cabin for our time away. From there we headed towards Traverse City. The first day there was rain all day until evening. We had made plans to head to Sleepy Bear Dunes for an evening of guided stargazing. We realized while eating dinner that night out with the kids there is no way they were going to last that late. So, we headed to Mission Pointe Lighthouse. It is the furthest point out on Grand Traverse Bay of Michigan. It was a lot of fun.
We did some nature study as this beach was full of plants. The kids didn't even realize that is what we were doing, but they still are talking about the Monarch butterfly caterpillar we saw.
All they really cared to do in all honesty was dig in the sand.
Anthony took the kids out in the water to stack rocks and look at all the different things. They found a leech. While they were out there they happened to be in another photographers view. He was out in the water too. He took this picture of them and graciously had us give him my email before we left so he could send it. It is probably my favorite image of vacation. I love it.
I brought this photo back with a lot of help. I really wanted this one of Lilliana and I. Unfortunately the changing light made it challenging for Anthony. He does well 99% of the time shooting in manual even. Either way, I saved it and I am happy. It may not be canvas quality but that is ok.
The drive home on the peninsula was beautiful. It was beautiful on the way to the lighthouse over hills and vineyards. There was an overlook I had Anthony stop at as we headed home. The sunset was just amazing from there.
We took a nature hike around the cabin the following day.
That night we headed to miniature golf. I have to laugh because the place was so interesting. It was a dive, but the kids loved it. The pizza was ok. They had a lot of fun though so it didn't matter.
Then we went for ice cream. This is where we paid way too much money for way too much ice cream. Anthony's or mine would have been enough to feed us all. We ended up tossing a lot of it. The kids found this swing and loved it though.
Our way home was probably the most memorable. We took the scenic route back to the cabin and due to rain and just the road, we got stuck. I was out in my skirt trying to help Anthony get us out. That didn't work so we had to go to somebody's house and ask for a shovel. They brought their truck and pulled us out. The kids were freaking out and I pretty much laughed. It was funny.
Our last day we spent at the beach. That is what the kids wanted to do. It was chilly all weekend, but they didn't care.
It was a wonderful weekend away! If you ever get a chance to visit Michigan. Take the chance. You will not regret it!
