Last Christmas I looked forward to this Christmas season with much anticipation. I could not wait to have 5 kids to decorate the tree with. I hoped by that point our remodel would be done so we could at least decorate. Somehow in all the crazy and busy it all worked out and decorating this year was beautiful. It was chaotic but it was beautiful. It made my mama heart happy.
Anthony use to be so annoyed with me because I wouldn't care that the house may have been disastrous, I felt the need every year to allow the Christmas decorations to throw up all over the house AKA decorate. Well, I finally learned after 8 years of marriage and I cleaned up the house, like good fall cleaning a week and a half before decorating time. I think I may have shocked him a bit. It needed done. Slowly, but surely we are getting this house back in order after the upstairs and replacing the downstairs flooring. It is slow going and many days there is more clutter than I like. I also have made a dent in minimalizing things which has helped. We began the night with Anthony setting up the tree and promising this was the last year we were using this tree. I should mention he said this two years ago. I should also mention I really am struggling getting rid of this tree because it was our first tree together. Sadly, it was cheap and has not held up. We had originally planned to do real, but we use to travel to Idaho at Christmas so it didn't work. This next year may be the year we begin that tradition or we continue to use this tree until Anthony gets fed up and goes out and buys a new one. Time will tell. Either way, the babies were so captivated.
I began the tradition of building the kids ornament collection Eli's first Christmas. We have continued every year and by the time they are 18 will have a set of ornaments to take to their house. Truth be told they probably will get them until they get married because I enjoy picking ornaments to their personality. The deep secret that I must tell is they have to match our tree so they are usually red, white, or silver. I know I am terrible, but so far I have picked something that fits them every year and matches. The fun part is this year I gave them a box of their ornaments and let them go to town no directions. They did fabulous.
Then of course it was time to do the babies first ornaments. I helped them, although they were not that interested.
Of course we had to take our traditional picture I started 4 or 5 years ago, I can't remember. Let's just say it was a little chaotic and not as magical as it looks with two babies who are everywhere. Daphne was not thrilled she had to sit.
Thank goodness for older kids who may not like having to sit there and hold them, but willingly do it. In the end I quickly got it and then we let them go....
I so love watching the magic of Christmas through their eyes. I frequently can find them at the tree at night just staring. This might be my all time favorite. Eli just adores Annalise and they are pretty close. He also will grab Daphne occasionally too. I walked in one day to find him showing both of them things.
Now if we could just keep little hands away, the tree might survive one more year.
