Back to School 2018

Back to school Reuther style, means less outside time and chores in the morning. Instead we spend our mornings upstairs in our homeschool room doing school. All summer I seriously considered putting them in public school for a lot of reasons. Ultimately I didn't think it was right for us at this point. I just had this gut feeling like I have always had that this is exactly where we are supposed to be. We have had some rough years with newborns, toddlers, all little kids. It can make your days crazy without adding in school. Then you have many doubts that you might actually be failing them and they are not getting enough. I have talked about how we switched everything up right in the middle of school last year. It did improve, but the girls were still at a really really hard age. By May I still felt like I was drowning.

All summer we worked on some cleaning habits for all of us. I am proud to say we had a couple rough weeks, BUT my house is in much better shape than it has been since the girls were tiny babies and slept all the time. I have had a lot more prep work due to the fact all of the kids have new books. It was just having to do Elis, but it is working out well. We are done with our first week. The kids are not usually thrilled school is happening but of course do it because they have to. Thursday they asked me, "Can we keep the schedule for school?" I was confused and told them of course we are keeping it that way. They went on to tell me they really loved school this year. The books were better and they enjoyed the way were were doing it. I finally caught on that I had told Anthony I may have to switch around our schedule for the way we did subjects each day. They thought it meant we were changing school to something different and they didn't want that at all. They loved it. I don't think we have ever had that much enthusiasm about school. I realize this may change, but for now I will take it! Each year is getting easier!!!

All the crazies that make the days LONG but SOO WORTH IT!! I love them so much and am so glad I do get to spend all day with them 7 days a week even some days when I need a break and contemplate sending them off to school.
