Making Baby Food-Day 5 Pears and Pluots

Pears
Photobucket

Eli loved pears so I am sure Lilliana will as well.  First wash and dry pears. Then cut them in to quarters.

Then put them in a steaming basket over a pot of boiling water and let cook for 7-10 minutes. They need to be covered. They will be soft when poked with a fork when they are done.

After they are done. Peel off the skins.........Photobucket
I know these don't look that good but they smelled delicious!

Then put them in the blenderPhotobucket

Put in Ziplock bags or ice cube trays. Label and date and your done! I did 4 pears and got 9 bags of food that has 1/3 cup in each.Photobucket

Pluots
I had to do a little research into these fruits. I saw them at the grocery store and bought some to eat for myself and for baby food. I really enjoyed them and plan to pick some more up this weekend. They are very sweet. I discovered that they are a hybrid mix between a Plum and Apricot. From what I found they are about 70% Plum and 30% Apricot. They are a very pretty color when opened too.Photobucketn

They do have a pit so remember that. I was trying to hurry and get both the pears and pluots done at the same time so I put the pluots in this type of steamer that sits on my pan covered.

Then let them cook about 7-10 minutes or until the skins are falling off..............Photobucket
Then scrape the skins off and take out the pit. They will be so soft you can just pull it out really. You could also half and pit before cooking but I opted to do it this way. Make sure they cool before this or you might burn yourself. This is what they looked like before blended.

Then blend them.

Then put in ziplocks, label, and date. I had 7 of them and got about 6 bags with a 1/3 of a cup in each one. I think these will probably stain clothes so keep that in mind when you feed them to your little one. I did try them after they had cooked and they were tart but sweet at the same time so I will probably wait until Lilliana is 7 or 8 months to feed her these. I want her tastes to be a little more developed. They did smell really good. They had a very cinnamon nutmeg smell when cooking.
